Sheriff Brett Stassi
Sheriff Brett Stassi is presently serving his fourth term as Sheriff, having been sworn in to his first term in office on July 1, 2012. Prior to this time, he had a 30-year career in law enforcement, administration and community involvement.
During his tenure as Sheriff, he has consistently prioritized having a trained and respectful law enforcement force, community involvement by his staff, and incorporation of the latest law enforcement tools and equipment in fighting and solving crime.
He is well respected within the Louisiana law enforcement community and Louisiana Sheriff’s Association (LSA), having served on the LSA’s Board of Directors as both board President and as an officer. He continues to serve on the LSA Executive Committee.
Education
- Graduate of St. John High School, 1979
- Criminal Justice Degree from Nicholls State University, 1981
Experience
- Began working for the Iberville Sheriff’s Office upon graduation from St. John High School
- 2 years as road deputy with the Iberville Sheriff’s Office
- 9 years as a Detective in the Iberville Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division
- Appointed to the Louisiana Sheriff’s Task Force
- 19 years as Investigator within the District Attorney’s Office
- 5 years as Investigator/Office Manager of the DA’s Iberville Office, including supervision of a staff of 20 people and responsibility for all day-to-day operations
- Elected Sheriff 2011 and took office in 2012.
- Member of the Louisiana Sheriff’s Association Board of Directors, Served in numerous LSA officer positions, including being elected as President in 2021
Family/Community Involvement
- Married to Caroline Engolio Stassi, the father of three children, Brett, Jr., Anne Marie and Annette; and 8 grandchildren
- Life-long resident of Iberville Parish
- Member of the Knights of Columbus Council 970
- Member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church
- Participates in a wide variety of benefit fundraisers for charitable/community organizations

Sheriff Brett Stassi
When I began my first term as sheriff, my goals were to improve cooperation and collaboration with municipal law enforcement agencies and the residents of Iberville, in order to pool intelligence and resources to help deter crime and solve crimes. I have remained committed to this goal and have established units, such as the crime scene investigation unit, Special Operations Unit, and Interstate Patrol, to assist in our crime fighting efforts.
Our communication with other law enforcement agencies in Iberville Parish and in Louisiana is at an all time high.
In addition, we have made significant improvements in technology, training and equipment to be sure our deputies are ready for the many challenges they face daily in protecting our residents and can provide the best possible service to our communities. These improvements have been a hallmark of my tenure and will continue.
I remain committed and determined in our goal of making the Iberville Sheriff’s Office one of the best law enforcement departments in the United States.
